Early Spring Is a Starting Point, Not a Rule.
Orlando's Landscaping starts with the plant instead of a universal calendar. Early spring is a good trimming window for many plants, but treating it as a rule can remove flowers or leave a plant vulnerable at the wrong time.
Smooth and panicle hydrangeas flower on new growth and can generally be pruned before spring growth begins. Azaleas, rhododendrons, lilacs, viburnums, bigleaf hydrangeas, and oakleaf hydrangeas carry flowers on older wood and are usually better trimmed after blooming.
Evergreen hedges are commonly shaped in early spring, with light trimming during summer when needed. Substantial late-summer or fall trimming can produce tender growth that is more vulnerable to winter injury.
Most of the residential shrubs we maintain need trimming once or twice a year. Formal hedges may need more frequent attention when the homeowner wants a tightly defined shape.
Not Every Shrub Needs the Same Haircut.
A formal boxwood hedge is supposed to look crisp and deliberate. A flowering hydrangea, ornamental shrub, or small tree may look worse when every branch is forced into the same outline.
Before the trimmers start, we look at the plant, its natural form, the amount of growth, and what the homeowner wants changed. Some plants need clean shearing. Others need selective reduction so the finished result still looks like the plant it is supposed to be.
That difference is what keeps a trimming visit from turning every shrub on the property into the same green ball.
Overgrown Does Not Always Mean Ruined.
Many deciduous hedges and multi-stem shrubs can be reduced gradually or renewed by removing older growth. Privet, forsythia, lilac, viburnum, and similar shrubs often provide more room to correct years of growth.
Evergreens require more caution. Junipers, pines, and many conifers may not regrow when they are cut into bare interior wood. Yews are more forgiving. Boxwoods and arborvitae may recover from heavier reduction, but regrowth can be slow and uneven.
The goal is not to cut as much as possible. It is to reduce what the plant can safely lose without leaving permanent brown openings. When a hedge has outgrown the space beyond a reasonable correction, replacement through our planting service may produce a better result.
Tall Hedges Are Still Part of the Conversation.
We do not set an arbitrary height limit for hedge trimming. We look at the plant, property access, surrounding structures, and what can be completed safely before confirming the scope.
Our crews use STIHL trimming equipment for formal hedges, shrubs, bushes, and evergreen growth. We also trim small ornamental trees when the work fits this service. Large-tree pruning and removal are separate from residential hedge and shrub trimming.
We Price the Labor, Not the Number of Bushes.
Ten small shrubs along an open walkway are different from ten tall, overgrown hedges against a fence. Counting plants alone does not account for height, density, access, reduction, or the amount of material that must be handled afterward.

I’ve used Orlando and his team multiple times now. Can’t recommend them enough. First time, I was in a bind and needed to put new mulch down. Orlando’s team cleared out all the bad mulch and junk from the beds, edged, trimmed all the bushed, cut back all the over grown grasses and put down pre-emergent.
