Finished fescue lawn beside a Central Kentucky home after sod installation
SOD INSTALLATION

Sod Installation in Lexington, KY

A new lawn can look finished quickly, but whether it stays thick and healthy depends on the preparation underneath it. Orlando's Landscaping installs lush fescue sod for full lawns, former landscape beds, and areas disturbed during drainage or irrigation work throughout Lexington and Central Kentucky.

SOD REPLACEMENT AND SMALLER REPAIRS

Sometimes You Do Not Need a Whole New Lawn

Many of our sod projects are not complete lawn replacements. A homeowner may want to remove an old landscape bed and return the area to grass. A drainage or irrigation project may leave part of the lawn that needs to be restored. Sometimes one section is simply too damaged for seed to provide the result the homeowner wants.

We install sod where it makes sense, whether that means restoring a focused area or replacing an entire lawn. Existing grass and debris are removed and hauled away. Grading, tilling, additional soil, and machinery are included only when the condition of the ground calls for them.

If the established grass can still be improved, our lawn care and overseeding service may be the more practical starting point.

FESCUE FOR THE BLUEGRASS

Thick Fescue Sourced Close to Home

We primarily install thick, lush fescue sod for lawns throughout Lexington and the Bluegrass. We work with several suppliers around Lexington and Georgetown, often sourcing from Sodworks in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Good sod matters. So does how it is transported, handled, fitted, and installed. For larger projects, Orlando's Landscaping may bring a mini skid loader or Dingo to move heavy pallets across the property. Smaller areas may be completed primarily by hand.

Access, gates, slopes, existing landscaping, and the distance from the delivery area all affect the installation plan. We account for those details before the sod arrives.

SOD INSTALLATION COST

The Estimate Should Reflect the Yard in Front of Us

Sod installation cost depends on more than square footage. We purchase sod at the current rate charged by the farm, add a small delivery fee, and price installation using our labor rate.

The estimate also accounts for existing grass removal, debris hauling, soil preparation, grading, access, delivery distance, and any machinery needed to move heavy pallets. This keeps the price tied to the work the property actually needs.

If standing water or poor drainage damaged the original lawn, the water problem should be corrected before new sod is installed. Our yard drainage service addresses those underlying conditions before the lawn is restored.

AFTER THE LAST ROLL

Fresh Sod Needs Water Right Away

Our work does not end with the last roll of sod. New sod needs consistent watering while its roots begin connecting with the soil below.

Before we leave, we review watering guidance for the property and explain what the homeowner needs to do during establishment. Weather, sunlight, soil conditions, and drainage can all affect how quickly the sod dries.

The lawn looks finished on installation day. The watering afterward helps it become established lawn instead of a temporary green surface.

We have used Orlando's Landscaping for our landscaping and lawn mowing and trim for several years. They are the best and very easy to work with. They have removed trees and planted trees and several bushes. Every recommendation has been great. Orlando has a talent for how the mulch beds should look and where new plants should be placed. We receive comments on well our yard looks and have referred them to several of our neighbors.
